My Top Five Lettering and Creative Business Podcasts
When I started lettering and planning to start a side business, I was a bit overwhelmed with this new world that I’d stumbled upon. I didn’t know where to start with my business idea. Since I love listening to podcasts, I naturally turned to them to help guide my journey. I wanted to devour everything I could find on art and business. Several shows have helped teach and inspire me over the last year.
I wanted to share some of my very favorite podcasts with you. I’ve split this into two posts. This first one will be my 5 favorite lettering and creative business podcasts. The second post will be my top 5 podcasts about entrepreneurship and small businesses. There’s definitely some overlap between the two, but those are the guidelines that I used. I hope that I can help you discover some new inspiration!
The Perspective Podcast
Scotty Russell of Perspective-Collective has great insights on building a creative business. His passion for lettering, illustration and art is contagious. He gets big guests, too, which is a lot of fun.
Creative Pep Talk
This show is exactly what the title says. Andy J. “Pizza” has a way with metaphors. His unstructured, wide-ranging podcast is a great way to pep you up and give you motivation to propel you along your own creative journey. And he’s got good music, too.
Creative Empire
This is a useful show for those of you who are working on your creative businesses. Reina Pomeroy and Christina Scalera have good guests and interesting perspectives. I’m sad to say that the show has ended, but at least there are 250 episodes in the backlog!
Misses Ambitious
Kiley Bennett of Kiley in Kentucky and Blaine Astrike of Ms. FitFood are best friends, and that dynamic really shines through in their show. They come together to talk about their lives and their businesses, and it feels like you’re sitting in on a fun chat between friends.
The Modern Creative
This is a relatively new show, and I’m enjoying what they have to offer. Dianuh of Chasing Linen and Joyce of Write Pretty Things are both calligraphers, so it’s extra fun for me to listen to this one and see what it takes to run a successful business.
Honorable mentions
These are some other creative podcasts: The Honest Designers Show, The Accidental Creative, and Drunk on Lettering. Two great newcomers are Amy Latta with Crafting and Coffee and Tara with The Rad and Happy Podcast.
What did I miss? Let me know in the comments below! And stay tuned next week when I talk about my favorite business podcasts.
